then it must be Tibet

The most enchanting thing about Tibet it’s its awe for life. Palaces built on plateaus, the spring of life scattered across the third pole, the resilient life in no man’s land.

Conversing with the flora in Tibet, holding our impetuous desires under the knees of nature, and feeling the sacredness and tenacity of the snowy regions through the strong heartbeat of the plateau. Tibetan antelope on the plateau, little snow leopard in the snow. Observe a herd of Tibetan antelopes, recognize a snow leopard, and interpret the mystery and ecological value of Tibet's ecological environment. This time around, Chengli Academy launched the Everest Project, a spiritual business and charity event. Under the leadership of Wang Shi, who climbed the world's highest peak Mount Everest twice, students calmly felt the infinite charm of Tibet, allowing Chinese entrepreneurs to find new directions and power their inner strength.

13th of May, Chengli Academy assembles in Lhasa, being the first time most of the student have been to an altitude of 3650meters, part of them started showing altitude sickness symptoms of varying degree. After Chengli prepared heath checks for all its members, the students made some adjustments, slowly started getting used to the plateau weather and started making preparations for the days ahead.

14th of May, Chengli Academy organizes its students who just arrived in Lhasa to watch “BALLOON”by Director Pema Tseden

A red balloon enters into view, thus a movie was made. The origin story of “Balloon” is a wondrous note in film history. Circa 10 years ago, a night in-between autumn and winter, Pema Tseden, a student of the Beijing Film Academy was walking close to Zhongguancun. He saw a red balloon floating in the street, thought it was so beautiful, thought it would be great movie construct. Hence, a story started emerging in his heart.

In all the Chinese movies that came out in theaters in 2020,“Balloon” had the highest rating score in Douban (Chinese IMDB). “Balloon”also won the Golden Coconut Award at the second Hainan Island International Film Festival. Finally, in 2021 it won the 2020 Top Ten Chinese Films in the 12th Annual Youth Film Manual Festival.

The director of “Balloon”Pema Tsedens, being of Tibetan origin, always wanted to film movies with a Tibetan theme, ever since he was a student and brilliantly created “The Silent Holy Stones”, up until he directed “The Search or Soul Searching” and “The Sacred Arrow”, Pema Tsedens he completed his journey in search of the Tibetan culture roots. From the very impressive “The Silent Holy Stones” to “The Sacred Arrow” and finally“Tharlo”, we can see Pema Tsedens style grow into maturity, he gave up complicated filming techniques and gave into long and steady shots, which made up his later personal style, showing an eastern clean cut pureness making us feel emotion more intensely. In the movies ceremonial solitude, Pema Tsedens scenes communicate a stillness, touching our hearts.

He said that what he tried to convey in the film was the problems that common people encounter, “when the soul meets a challange, how do we solve it?” encouriging the students to think.

“Balloon” consistently kept the topics Pema Tsedens wanted to display: the relationship between soul and life, in the life of the Tibetan people in this new age. Part of the students have never seen a movie at the altitude of 3600 meters, they explained that they learned a lot from this experience. Both the movie viewing and the exchange with the director, to the students, the experience was very meaningful.

Smile Angel Foundation public welfare activities

A smile is the most beautiful expression on earth.But for many Children with CLP(cleft lip and palate), this simple and beautiful smile is a luxury.

Data from the China Congenital Deformity Monitoring Department show that CLP ranks third in all congenital malformations. Every year in China 35thousand children are born with CLP, in average, in every 550 new borns there will be one suffering from CLP, the chance of disease is 1.82%. In disadvantaged areas with poor medical conditions, the chance of disease is even higher. Because of poverty, many families are unable to apply for repair operations for their children, causing many kids to feel inferior and leaving them unable to smile because of this birth defect.

To encourage more children with CLP gain their confidence in life and smile, the Smile Angel Foundation was established in 2006, 21st of November. It provides support and services for patients with CLP and their families, thus started their journey on the road of charitable works.

The Smile Angel Foundation does not want these patients to miss the best treatment opportunities due to misinformation, inconvenient transport or the inability to pay for transport. In 2012 13th of September the Smile Angel Foundation decided to establish the first medical team composed solely of Chinese professionals, implementing the “Smile Angel Journey-Send Out the Love” charity project.

Therefor, in 2021,14th of May, the Chengli Academy together with the Smile Angel Foundation followed the Smile Angel journey and went to visit these patients, at the General Hospital of the Tibetan Military Region of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region. They interacted with the patients and their families, brought them toys, drawing equipment and other gifts.

These patients on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, get to enjoy the most beautiful scenery, but they also have to endure harshest of weather; they enjoy nature in its purest form, but they also suffer from lack of resources. In these conditions, many patients suffering from CLP can’t get effective treatment in time. Therefore, Chengli Academy calls on its students, entrepreneurs and the public to pay attention to this special group of people, hoping to do all they can in sending some warmth to the patients in Tibet.

In the afternoon of the same day, Ms. Zhou Fang, secretary-general of Smile Angel Foundation, explained the foundations situation and welcomed the arrival of Chengli Academy.

This time, we were lucky to be able to invite the Chief CLP Surgical Physician at the West China School-Hospital of Stomatology Sichuan University. 2021 Smile Angel Journey medical team chief physician Shi Bing shares with us the professional knowledge needed to repair a CLP. We got to know, that this is his 9th time joining the Smile Angel Foundation Journey.

He said: “The Smile Angel Foundation journey, for all of us it’s the journey of astonishment, for the doctors its a journey of new life, for the patients it’s a journey of rebirth”

The exemplary student Gao Xiangdong also shared his reflections toward this charitable event, he said: “Before I only heard rumors, but this time that I personally got close into contact with the Smile Angel Foundation, I am overwhelmed with thoughts. Smile Angel is a social welfare foundation that deserves respect, all these Medical professionals and volunteers have used their own professionalism and love to better the quality of life for countless children suffering from CLP, these workers are doing something mighty.”

I count myself as a Chengli Academy “Charity Depudy”, these years Chengli has brought many entepenours all over to do charity work, this social welfare group is called “Chengli Charity”, its goal is to make entepenours do all they can to help more people. This time we arrived to China’s sacred land Tibet, it’s a journey of learning, together with the Smile Angel Foundation, it’s an angelical journey.

Ms.Zhou Fang said: “It’s not the first time I find myself in Tibet, but this time has moved me the most. I’ve come onto the podium many times but I’ve never brought tissues with me, afraid that I wont be able to hold my tears.”

“My name signifies hoping my surroundings have fragrance. Today i met Ms.Fang (Secretary General of the Smile Angel Foundation) with my same name and surname, in her I saw her own world. It’s easy for a person to do a good deed, but it’s been hard for the Smile Angel Foundation to keep at it for 15 long years, thank you Smile Angel Foundation for your endurance. At the same time, I also want to thank everyone who manages and works in the Tibet liberation army hospital, it’s thanks to your superb medical skills and infinite love that these patients can confidently smile again. Likewise I want to thank the Chengli Academy for giving to entrepreneurs like me this chance; this chance to be in such close contact with people in need, to make us better understand what is it that we can do to help all these families. ”

Under the guidance of the “Smile Angel Foundation”, Chengli Academy students benefited a lot from this public welfare expedition. It is the common wish of the students to let more patients with CLP "smile for a lifetime". After getting close to these patients CLP, the students realized that their "little acts of kindness" might ignite the hope of a family and illuminate the future of a child.

Every child with CLP is a darling that has felt the bitter kiss of an angel. Congenial CLP is not a scary illness, as long as it is treated in due time, these children can still live whatever life they choose.

After a full day of itinerary, the students returned to the hotel one after another to rest. Chengli Academy's Everest project trip to Tibet DAY 1 ended successfully, let us look forward to the rest of this trip in Tibet.
